LACI-Cog is a clinical trial to test new treatments for adults with early or mild memory problems due to damaged blood vessels in the brain. The team is seeking opinions, comments and observations about their plans ahead of launching its recruitment of participants for the trial itself which will be done through 20 selected memory clinics around the UK.
To gather this really valuable feedback, the team is using the POPPED* website (https://popped.org.uk/laci-cog-home/), a platform which gathers opinions from the public, including people with dementia, families and professionals.
Aiming to involve 300 people, LACI-Cog, stands for Lacunar Intervention Trial – Cognition, will test two medicines that have previously been used in a study in stroke patients.
These medicines, called isosorbide mononitrate and cilostazol, are already used in the NHS to treat heart problems and seem to be safe with few side effects. An earlier study showed they might help with memory and everyday tasks.
The new study will test these medicines in a group of people with memory problems caused by damaged blood vessels in the brain.
You can read more about the study on the POPPED website where you can complete the survey questions to help the team and this critical stage of the study.
