In Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, activation of the 'unfolded protein response' (UPR) is one of the brain structure changes which parallels the progression of clinical symptoms. Animal models have shown that interventions which restore cerebral protein synthesis rates have prevented this neurodegeneration. The investigators are focusing on the links between UPR overactivation and protein synthesis rates. This study will provide essential information about the human brain's response which will inform clinical trials of drugs that target the URR in Alzheimer's disease.
