Researchers are using mathematical modelling techniques to understand the best ways to run clinical trials for dementia

The scientists are evolving advanced mathematical models to develop a ‘clinical trials simulator’ – a computational model, based on long-term and detailed ‘cohort’ data. The models will help the scientists understand how to design clinical trials for drugs that target the earliest stages of the disease. By using cohort data – which stretches back decades in many cases – the joint university-industry team, will be able to look back in time at the development of disease. They’ll use this information to refine and optimise the design of clinical trials, ready for the next breakthrough.
