PET amyloid scans © Dementia Research Centre / UCL
Simultaneous PET-MR scanning is an advanced technique allowing scientists to map the distribution of amyloid in the brain at fine detail

The team is using an advanced brain scanning technique – PET-MR imaging – on 500 people who are members of the 1946 birth cohort. The scans will help scientists develop convenient and robust methods to identify cases of dementia, Parkinson's disease or Motor Neurone disease from the data that is routinely gathered by long-term health studies, GPs, hospitals and death records. These recently completed brain scans makes these participants' data extremely valuable for further research.
