The ROADMAP Data Cube provides the first comprehensive overview of Europe-wide cohort data that are useful for dementia research. DPUK researchers were part of the international team to develop the new free interactive data discovery tool.

The ROADMAP Data Cube allows researchers to search metadata from all 66 Europe-wide datasets for the first time. In a notoriously complex research field, the Data Cube supports researchers at the earliest stage of study planning. It helps researchers pinpoint the most useful datasets for their study quickly by considering all of what is available.

DPUK researcher, Dr Christoph Jindra, was one of the team who developed the resource. He says:

The ROADMAP Data Cube is a comprehensive overview of European cohorts that are relevant for dementia research. As a researcher, it’s easy, I think, to overlook the most relevant data as you tend to use what you know. If you want a full overview of what’s available, this is a really helpful starting point. It could point you in the right direction of the best data for your study.

Participatory research

The researchers consulted patients, healthcare professionals and caregivers in the development of the resource. As a result, health outcomes that were found to be important for these groups, for example, functional ability and independence, feature as key domain categories.

The Data Cube allows researchers to identify the most useful cohorts for their research. It includes cohorts with biomarkers, cohorts with memory tests and cohorts with functional abilities. It is available online here and via a link from the DPUK dementia research resources page.
